Zari Threads

Zari, also known as Jari, is a metallic thread wrapped on a thin cotton thread without any breakage. Zari work originated in India and have been in existence since the Mughal Era. Traditionally zari thread was formed from real gold and silver but now they are made of cotton thread that is wrapped with metallic threads which can be plated in any color.

Earlier, zari thread was used for embellishment of royal attires but now it is used for embellishing silk sarees, lehenga, ghagra, appliques, and other embroidery work. These threads are mainly used in Haute Couture embroidery. This thread can be used for Machine and Hand Embroidery. Some styles in Zari Threads are also famous as Japan Threads.
